BORNEO INTERWOVEN

At Tanoti, one of our core objectives is the preservation of heritage textiles. Passed down through generations of artisans, these techniques are more than a source of income, they are a way of life. From handwoven songket and ikat weaving to rattan basketry, these ancestral knowledge form an unbroken connection to the past, thoughtfully brought into a contemporary context.

Borneo Interwoven is a 5 day congregation of weavers, natural dye practitioners, designers, researchers, and cultural stakeholders. An event where we exchange culture and explore techniques, thus collectively reimagine the future of ASEAN textile heritage through innovation, collaboration and community.

DREAMWEAVER THE MUSICAL

At Tanoti, we believe the preservation of heritage crafts extends beyond the loom. Through Dreamweaver The Musical, the songket weaver steps into a new role, bringing her craft to life through performance and storytelling.

In collaboration with Balkon Media and Sarawak Energy, Dreamweaver The Musical brought the story of songket to life through 21 performances in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, blending textile, performance, and storytelling into a singular experience. More information may be found below.

HASANAH GOLD THREADS AWARDS

At Tanoti, we see ourselves as advocates for crafts. As co-producer of the Hasanah Gold Threads Awards, our objective is to celebrate excellence in Malaysia’s heritage textiles and encourage sustained growth in this sector.

The Hasanah Gold Threads Awards project is being jointly managed by Tanoti and the ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association (AHPADA), and supported by Yayasan Hasanah and Ministry of Finance, Malaysia under the Hasanah Special Grants allocation. More information may be found below.

TENUN FASHION WEEK

From exquisite fabrics produced for royal courts to vivid cloths woven by communities in the remote reaches of highlands and islands, Southeast Asia has a handwoven textiles tradition with a tremendous range of imagery and demonstrating considerable technical prowess. TENUN, the first fashion week dedicated completely to the handweaves of ASEAN, reimagines their continued relevance by exploring their use in today’s fashion.
