Trudge through mangroves and discover how gula apong comes from the nipah tree.
In the mangroves of coastal settlements, many villagers eke out income from extracting nira sap from wild nipah palms and processing them into sugar. This itinerary invites participants to visit the nipah orchard of Pak Mahli and be treated to cakes made from the gula apong, made fresh by his wife Rohana.
