Learn Basketry Weaving (2 hours)
Remote communities throughout Sarawak tap the rainforests to supplement their lives- weaving mats, baskets and bags out of the rattan vine. Learn basketry weaving using hand-harvested rattan extracted from the rainforests in the highlands of Sarawak. You will be guided by an actual craft artisan as you produce your own handplaited mini-rattan artwork.
Learn Songket Weaving (2 hours)
The traditional technique of Songket Weaving is applied by the Malay communities to produce opulent fabrics to be worn for ceremonies and celebrations. Learn to weave your own songket souvenir on a mini-loom. You will be guided by an actual songket weaver from whom you may also get a sneak peak into her people’s history, culture and rich heritage.
Learn Loom Beading (2 hours)
As beads became objects of trade, beading became a widely popular craft. Many of Sarawak’s ethnic groups produce beautiful beaded adornments for their headgear, jewellery and costumes. Learn loom beading on the beading loom. You will be guided by a craft artisan as you design and make your custom beaded Sarawakian souvenir.
